Registered Nurse- Chief, Acute Care Service

Duties include but not limited too:
The Chief Nurse for Acute Care provides executive leadership and direct supervision to the Nurse Managers over the following units:
6W, 7W Chemo/Oncology, 8W, and Telemetry. Assesses, plans, and evaluates the processes and daily operations of the inpatient units. Assists Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers to carry out the functions and activities of their roles. Mentors and utilizes Education and Training Services/Workforce Development and other staff members to support RNs in a transition to practice role. Supports RN residency programs. Assures competency for all levels of nursing staffing working within OBVAMC, assuring all who float have the correct documented competencies. Supports the development of Evidence Based Practice Culture throughout OBVAMC. Develops and utilizes strong collaborative relationships with physician counterparts including, but not limited to, Chief of Medicine, Chief of Surgery, Chief Resident and Chief Hospitalist. In collaboration with the Chiefs of others services, designs and implements interdisciplinary programs within the service and medical center. Has substantial and continuing responsibility for planning, organizing, directing and controlling service-wide infrastructure issues which include overall operation of the service. Has significant medical center and service policy responsibilities. Work Schedule:

United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Education:
A Master's Degree in nursing or a related field with BSN (NLNNAC or CCNR accredited) ANCC Nurse Executive or National Nursing Board Certification Preferred
Experience:
A minimum of 3-4 years recent (within the past five years) successful practice in nursing administration in a setting with broad program mission, scope and complexity. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse IV - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 4-5 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and appropriate basic or advanced certification, and approximately 3-4 years of nursing practice/experience. Reference:
VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements:
Eligible applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform the following:
Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pulling hand over hand (1 hour); pushing (1 hour); reaching above shoulder; walking (8 hours); standing (8) hours; repeated bending (2 hours); both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); Environmental Factors required:
working with hands in water; working closely with others; and protracted or irregular hours of work. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated material and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be capable of working effectively in stressful situations and able to shift priorities based on patient needs.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
