Supervisory Health System Specialist

The Heath Systems Specialist reports to the Chief of Staff, functioning as one of the primary support staff to the Executive Leadership of the Medical Center classified as a clinical referral Level 1c.
The Health Systems Specialist is a member of the Top Management team, playing an active and influential role in policy formulation, planning and decision making.
Activities involve the coordination of diverse administrative and professional programs, with the requirement to provide maximum support to the Chief of Staff (COS).
This position supervises and manages the Medical Staff Office, which includes oversight for the credentialing and privileging of licensed medical staff members.
The incumbent performs duties directly contributing to the administrative management of a health care delivery system.
Duties require the ability to apply the specialized principles and practices of health care management in directing or supporting a health care delivery system.
Provide comprehensive resource allocation information support decisions involving organizational funds.
Incumbent directs and assists medical center staff in administrative research, management' analyses, development of reports pertaining to program plans, development of operations, and assessments of any planning phase of the medical center's activities.
A thorough knowledge of institution wide clinical operations are required, as well as being able to interact with Veterans with clinical issues.
The incumbent also provides direct administrative assistance and advice to the Medical Center Director, serving as Controlled Substance Inspection Coordinator.
As Narcotics and Controlled Substance Inspection Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for assignment of narcotics inspectors and ensures that inspections occur timely.
Duties would include, but not limited to:
o Provision of staff support in long and short range planning.
o Financial and workload analyses.
o Program implementation and evaluation.
o Identifying and resolving a full range of complex management problems.
o Develop performance standards, writing position descriptions, evaluating work performance, and counseling of employee's whose performance is marginal or unsatisfactory, initiating disciplinary actions when necessary.
o Responsible for identifying medical center problems that involve new or revised policies or procedures and brings them to the attention of senior medical center management for appropriate action.
