Position
Summary:
As a Product Line Consultant, Property Loss Control Field Engineer in our Commercial Property division, you will conduct all risk property surveys on commercial property facilities including manufacturing and process industries such as woodworkers, pulp and paper mills, metalworkers, steel mills, aluminum mills, cement mills, plastic workers, rubber workers, electronic manufacturers, semiconductor and other large industrial facilities, as well as some non-manufacturing occupancies such as hospitals, universities, real estate, retail, etc.
Organizational Structure:
This position will be home based with field work conducted at insured facilities.
Performance Objectives:
Site visits are documented using company report formats detailing a variety of risk characteristics, presenting recommendations for risk improvement and avoidance, detailing and analyzing exposures and establishing fire and other natural catastrophe loss estimate scenarios.
Site work will require the ability to analyze hazards, evaluate fire protection water supplies and conduct hydraulic analyses of sprinkler systems. This work will also include testing of fire protection water supplies at insured facilities and development of insurance diagrams.
In addition to planning and executing site visits and technical consulting, the position is responsible for initiating effective communication of the results during closing conferences, including providing creative solutions to risk improvements.
The position will be responsible for fire protection plan review, providing effective interface with other supporting Commercial Property organizations and requisite reports.
The position may also be called upon to use industry expertise and judgment in the preparation and delivery of annual engineering account reviews and to handle departmental special assignments. The Ideal Candidate Should Have:
Knowledge of 'all risk' property loss control experience in performing property field surveys on a variety of industrial occupancies and in conducting loss control consultations. Strong analytical skills are a must; Highly Protected Risk (HPR) experience is highly desirable.
The individual must have proficiency in Automatic Sprinkler System Hydraulic Calculations & Fire Protection Water Supply Analysis. Wind uplift assessment, flood assessment, earthquake assessment, machinery breakdown equipment risk assessment capabilities and other occupancy specialist skills are desired skill sets, but are not required.
The position requires the engineer to be highly motivated and work well without close supervision. The individual must be able to make decisions with and without established guidelines and to provide technical support to underwriters & clients.
This individual will work closely with various Account Teams including Account Engineers and Underwriters, and could be called upon to mentor and train lesser experienced staff.
The position requires excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written), computer skills and a client focused approach.
Professional Engineer or Certified Fire Protection Specialist Designation is desired but not required.
